Colors new show Madhubala: Ek Ishq Ek Junoon will not highlight the stunning actress of yesteryear and her romance with Dilip Kumar as was commonly believed but it is, in fact, based on the reality of entertainment industry. Rohit Pramar finds out more...
Set in the 1990s, the show is about a girl who falls in love with a superstar called RK (Rishabh Kumar). We caught up with the lead actors Drashti Dhami and Vivian Dsena to talk about Madhubala: Ek Ishq Ek Junoon. Here’s what they said…
Drashti Dhami:
Is your character based on the actress Madhubala?
My character bears no similarity to the actress Madhubala. I don't think I can be compared to her. Once people watch the show, they will realise it's not about her.
Tell us more about your character.
Madhubala is a simple, mature girl, who is happy with her life. She doesn't wish for stardom but it is forced upon her.
How have you been preparing for the role?
I have put on weight but I am trying to lose it for the show. I cannot diet or starve myself. I’ve started doing power yoga and whenever I get the time, I go for a jog.
You’re famous as Geet from the TV show Geet. Do you think Madhubala will change that image?
I think as time passes, they will accept me. I was a part of Geet for two years so obviously it will take time before they completely accept a new character.
How has been the rapport with your co-actor Vivian?
We haven’t shot much yet. But he’s a cool guy. I’m sure we will hit off well on the sets.
Vivian Dsena:
What attracted you to this role?
I have always done roles that are different. I played a vampire in Pyaar Ki Ek Kahani. Now, I’m playing a superstar in this show.
How will describe your character RK?
RK is someone who is famous for being famous. He is a star kid who is successful, confident and clear about what he wants in life.
Has any Bollywood actor inspired you?
I idolise Salman Khan but that doesn't mean I follow him throughout.
Both, Dhrasti and you are equally famous on television. Do you think it will help the show?
I think it’s good for the show. We both have a good fan-following, so hopefully more people will watch our show.
Is the show based on the ’90s?
No. It isn’t a periodic show. It’s set in the current time.
Have you been working out for your role?
Yes, I have. I had become 98 kgs and so far I have lost 11 kgs. I am back in shape that all old clothes don’t fit me anymore.
Madhubala will premiere on May 28 on Colors
