Poetry Adda

Cappuccino Readings, which completed four years this April, now takes on a new avatar as The Cappuccino Adda. The first of the conversations under the new format takes place this evening, July 6, at the Kitab Khana bookstore, focusing on Marathi and Gujarati poetry with Hemant Divate, Udayan Thakker and Prabodh Parikh.

“It has been a wonderful and exciting journey for us where we have made friends and shared some really outstanding poetry through the years,” says founder Anjali Purohit. “All of this was even more precious for us because of the camaraderie we shared during the readings.” Under the new format, the aim is to offer room for debate and discussion. Entry is free and open to all.

Stand-up comedy

Stand-up comedy as practiced in India tends to be viewed as a masculine form even though women's biting, sarcastic, and sexual humour is very much part of our cultural context and history—from your family's incorrigible aunty to the poets of the Tamil Sangam and Dakhini traditions. Aditi Mittal—hungry, cold, late for work and a stand-up comedian—will be in conversation with Paromita Vohra at Mumbai Local.  They will explore the craft of stand-up comedy and the gendered nature of humour asking if female humour is different from male humour.  They will also explore the possibilities of stand-up in our context, anchored in a discussion of Aditi's work, approach and thinking.
