An introduction to kabir
The Kabir Festival started to introduce the Mumbai audience to the message of Kabir Vani through a confluence of live folk music as well as story-telling sessions.
These stunning artists have been called the Bob Dylan's and Bob Marley's of India by many listeners. The three-day festival will have multiple events at different locations, all completely free and open to the public on a first-come-first-serve basis. What is unique this year is that the festival is not supported by a giant corporate, but by the voluntary efforts of people from different walks of life, drawn together by their passion for the poetry of Kabir and the music of folk singers.
The advisory committee of the festival comprises of eminent personalities such as Nandita Das, Javed Akhtar, Kailash Kher, Anand Patwardhan, Dolly Thakore and many others. The festival hopes to reach every person in Mumbai through 15 different events in various parts of Mumbai. From Nariman Point to Borivali and Matunga to Vashi, the city will swing to the tune of Kabir during these three days. Do look out for the folk artists from different parts of India such as Rajasthan, Kutch and Malwa.
