Kashish Mumbai International Queer Festival is a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer film festival, celebrating great LGBTQ films from India as well as abroad. From Indian independent short films to documentaries and student films, the festival’s mission is to help give the community a platform to voice themselves.
Showing at the festival is Between The Two, a short film by Tanvi Talwar.
It focuses on a lot of the core ideals that the festival deals with. We’re taken through a journey of the views of three women who meet as equals to discuss what being a woman means to them.
We’re seeing everything through the filmmakers lens, viewing the world as she did through her childhood and the old age views and thoughts over what makes the ideal woman. Tanvi tells us, “I made this film because in my eyes, queers are not marginalised, they’re part of the framework of society. I wanted to shoot it in a way that created a comfortable space where the three characters have been friends forever, not like an interview.” The film also tries to answer ‘Are we born women or do we become women?’
