Food Review: The Studs

In an attempt to curb the dearth of sports bars in the city, The Studs – Sports Bar and Grill has opened its doors. Trisha Ghoroi is left awestruck by the space

With a name derived from a type of sports shoe, The Studs represents a strong grip. The concept of a sports bar elevated to the level that not only fans but even sports persons are impressed by, The Studs has already announced its arrival. With bright lights and grand seating, the interiors are divided into multiple sections. They have a pool table and a gaming area, a dining area in front of the 135-inch HD screen, a mafia lounge for private dining and a smoking room. TV screens are set up at different spots throughout the area, making sure that everybody can enjoy their favourite sport.

Made with fresh ingredients and a heavy dose of alcohol, we could not put down our strong concoctions. The French Martini (`600) has a subtle sweet and fruity flavour with a kick of alcohol, but the Kiwi Margarita (`195) stole the limelight, its fresh kiwi pulp blending well with the tequila base.

You need something to munch on while watching live matches and that’s where bar nibbles come in. We decided to try the ‘Thigh’ Land Express (`330), a chicken dish with bell peppers, onions and fragrant lemongrass, which complemented our drinks well. Thoda ‘corny’ ho jaye... (`230), fried, crispy corn with herbs and pepper, is the perfect crunchy snack. The Goan Choriz (`370) was one of our favourite dishes. Spicy pork gravy served with toasted pav, the dish hails from Goa and was heavenly! Next on the table was Sausage Kali Mirch (`370). Chicken sausages with peppers and scallions, this fiery dish makes for a great starter.

Unlike at most bars, at The Studs you get more than just finger food, with baos, sandwiches, pizzas and pastas to choose from. We ordered the Verde Alla Roma (`370), a penne pasta with pesto and parmesan, served with toasted bread. Even though it sounded interesting, the dish was a miss. The flavours were mild, and after the fiery starter, it didn’t excite our palate. However, the Isle St.Thomas (`490) was something out of the ordinary. A Caribbean chicken dish with veggies and mash, it was the star of the evening.

After all that, we were craving for a sundae. So, without a second thought, we ordered the Banofi Sundae (`280), an indulgent vanilla ice-cream with nuts, banana and chocolate drizzle. You’ll need to save some space for this one, but if you’re looking for something warm and gooey, the Chocolate Fondant (`260) is your answer. A gooey cake that oozes silky chocolate sauce, served with a quenelle of vanilla ice-cream, this indulgent dessert is the best way to end your meal.

Sports bars are a rare sight in Mumbai, and one of this calibre is near impossible to find. With great drinks and amazing food, you get a thrilling bar experience without having to compromise on any aspect. So, for your team’s next match, get your squad down to The Studs. We’re sure you’ll have a blast!
