By Dr. Shernaz Baji Avari

Old is gold and this adage aptly applies to Café Excelsior, opposite Excelsior Theatre at Fort (Est.1919) which will soon complete its centenary in a couple of years! It is still frequented by its earlier patronages from all castes and communities as three generations of a family still visit this restaurant which is like home to most and a landmark for some!

You can refresh, relax, unwind and enjoy the vast culinary delights at breakfast, lunch, dinner or for snacking in between meals .  A feather in the cap of its owner. Ardeshir G. Mazkoori  whose sincerity, commitment and keen interest in the running of this restaurant alongwith its able and courteous staff, keeps visitors and orders pouring in from 8 am to 11 pm from nearby offices in Fort area and cinegoers visiting Excelsor and Sterling cinema.

Various snacks, rolls, burgers and sandwiches can satiate your appetite with a hot cup of tea. Parsi delicacies include Chicken/Mutton/Veg. Dhansak Sali Boti or Sali Kheema Chicken/Mutton Gravy Cutlets or try out their Fish or Prawn Curry Rice.

Various egg preparations are not only fulfilling but relished by all. Aromatic Ingredients and spices in the biryanis makes it yummylicious!

Chicken Shawarma Roll on Veg. Falafel Shawarma with Lebanese Garlic Dip, accompanied by tangy slices of cucumber and beetroot is a must on your plate. Irresistable and utterly delicious is the Chinese Triple Schezwan Fried Rice which has an eclectic mix of rice, noodles, eggs and chicken cooked in Manchurian style. This dish is equally gobbled up by Vegetarians as Veg. Triple Schezwan.

The proof of the pudding lies in the eating! Do try out their creamy caramel custard, bread pudding or relish their Kulfis, seasonal fruit juices to round off that perfectly satisfying meal.

Do drop in with family and friends and feast to your hearts content or book your orders this Parsi New Year for take away parcels on telephone 22074543/22001299.
