Manager New Empire Cinema, Mumbai.
Do You think that the film industry or screening of films at your Theatre have a future ?
According to me a single screen Theatres have no future.
Multiplexis, Cineplexis and single screen Theatres are showing poor attendance from Mondays to Thursdays, with the result that sometimes shows are cancelled. Is it worthwhile to run your Theatre at a loss?
We have to run the shows as per the Agreement made with the distributors.
Today quality films have stopped coming, whereas quantity films have increased. Does it affect your patronage?
Yes in view of the poor attendance.
In today's times of CD's, Audios & Videos coming in the market immediately on the day of release of the films, what do you suggest to stop such piracy?
We cannot take any steps to check such piracy.
On what criteria do you select foreign/ Indian films? Is it on basis of star cast or Big banners?
We do not have such selection but we have to depend on distributors.
At your Theatre do you exhibit the films on percentage or rental basis?
We run pictures on percentage basis.
Distributors pay large sums of money to producers. Are they recovering large sums on their investment?
I don't think so.
State Government wishes to levy service Tax on admission fees at Theatres. Is it justified or should it be scrapped?
Service Tax if imposed will affect our poor attendance.
Do you think that Indian films should run only if there are items numbers?
Without item numbers also, Indian film should run on its merits.
