'Old is gold' stands true with Jimmy Boy

It is not everyday that you get to visit a restaurant that is a few years short of it's 100th anniversary. Jimmy Boy, a Parsi joint located in the bustling Horinman Circle, gives you the opportunity to do just that. Started in 1925, the restaurant was earlier called Cafe India. It was changed to Jimmy Boy in 1999 by the owners Aspy Irani and Dara Irani, in homage to the former's father Jamshed, who was fondly called Jimmy.

The restaurant is frequented by office goers through the week, who find comfort in the egg bhurjis and Salli Par Edu. The two-floored joint is packed on the weekends with visiting families from all parts of the town, some even coming to the city all the way from Pune. You are as likely to find a man sitting alone with a book and a sandwich, as you are to find a family of 12 devouring a Dhun Dal & Fish Patio “Customers prefer to make reservations before coming on Sundays, as the waiting can get very long,” said a restaurant staffer, who also proudly said they deliver to all parts of the city.

The mouth-watering authentic Parsi dishes served here are unlike any other place. The Patra ni Macchhi, Saas ni Macchhi, Jardaloo Salli Boti, chicken dhansak are the dishes most raved about by the customers. The Mutton Berry Pulao is also a popular dish served, as is the Lagan Nu Bhonu, which contains all the must-have dishes you would find served at a Parsi wedding. The joint also has an A/C section, as well as an in-house bakery that specialises in mava cakes.
