West End Hotel oozes charm and class

A charming colonial style hotel located in the heart of the city, West End Hotel is a reflection of it's Director, Prakash Awatramani. A five-storey building complete with a spaced out terrace that overlooks the Wankhede Stadium, the hotel is a favourite among guests across the spectrum. The hotel was started in 1948 by the current director's grandfather, Jotumal Awatramani, after the family had moved to the city from Sindh. The hotel has 80 rooms, 25 of which are suites. The highlight of the place are the three banquet halls, which are used frequently for conferences, parties, navjyots, weddings etc. The largest banquet hall, located on the terrace, can fit about 600 people and is frequently booked for a variety of events.

Although one of the oldest hotels in the city, West End Hotel has managed to keep up with the changing demands of the years. Owned by the family, it has been passed on from generations and will continue to follow the tradition. 20 per cent of the visiting guests are from outside the country, mostly Europe, while the rest are from all parts of India. The suites are popularly booked by families, and around 65 per cent are always occupied.

Wisdom flows through Prakash, a worldly man who believes that the owners and directors are not nearly as important as the customer, who's every demand should be met. He has grown up with the hotel, he tells us, while also naming the fried fillet of pomfret tartar sauce as the must have specialty of the restaurant, which offers buffets as well as à la carte for the guests to choose from.
