Sarika ‘s ‘rag-picking’ has Jalota in tears

Radiant and graceful as ever, senior actress Sarika made one of her rare public appearances at the star-studded premiere of  ‘Mr.Kabaadi’,  directed by Seema Kapoor (ex-wife of the late iconic Om Puri who plays a central character in the satirical comedy). No prizes for guessing that Sarika plays a major role in the movie and is cast as (‘Mr. Kabaadi’) Annu Kapoor’s pretty wife.

Enthused, the light-eyed actress, whose daughters Shruti Haasan  and Akshara Haasan are already making huge waves in showbiz, says, “ It’s an honour  to be co-starring with an illustrious actor like the ‘one-and-only’ Om Puri and I consider myself lucky that I was among those who knew Om-jee, very well as a family friend.  We really miss his presence today at this premiere and even otherwise. My unusual role has an intriguing ‘make-over’ from a de-glam ‘rag-picker to a rich class house-wife.” This, even as she was being complimented, by the invitee-guests for her authentic performance  in the movie.

Movie co-producer Anup Jalota commented, “ When I first saw Sarika in the ‘get-up’ of a poor rag-picker on screen,  I was moved to tears, because she looked so realistic. She is incredible.”  It may be recalled that Sarika ‘s riveting performance in the Parsi mother’s character in ‘Parzania’(2007)  fetched her the coveted ‘National  Award’.
