Veena Malik shot to national fame with Big Boss, and now, the Pakistani glamour girl is ready with her ambitious venture Zindagi 50-50. ADC’s Sandeep Hattangadi spoke to the rising star about her new film. Some excerpts.
You are playing a bold role in Zindagi 50-50.
Yes. I play a prostitute and there are a lot of bold scenes in the film but director Rajeev Ruia has shot them aesthetically.
How did you prepare for the role?
I visited the red light areas in the city and spoke to the real Madhuri on whom the film is based and observed how she talks, behaves, dresses and her general lifestyle.
How was it like working with co-star Rajen Verma?
He plays Birju, an auto rickshaw driver who ferries Madhuri for late night rides and he was an absolute darling to work with and a very talented actor.
The title sounds strange.
You see the film and you will understand how apt it is. It means how not all our dreams are fulfilled but 50 per cent of them do get realised and we should be thankful for that.
You are promoting the film in a big way.
Yes. We have toured across the country and also I recently visited Kamathipura and distributed condoms to the sex workers there.
Your MMS clip got very popular on YouTube.
The truth is that we had shot a song for this film which got leaked. Someone tampered the voices in the video which originally has a song and I am happy that the original sng video with Rajan Verma is finally out.
Your forthcoming films?
Mumbai 125 Kms-3D. The City That Never Sleeps and the Kannada version of Dirty Picture.
