
Urban Shots Crossroads edited by Ahmed Faiyaz is a compilation of urban short stories, 30 of them by 26 authors like Pune-based Paritosh Uttam, Dubai-based Ahmed Faiyaz, Canada-based Sanchari Sur and For Deepalaya contributing two stories each. Others notables are Reeti Gadekar, Malcolm Carvahlo, Rohini Kejriwal. The publishers could have easily provided a little bit of the authors’ backgrounds to help readers connect with the persons writing the stories, since some of them are debutants.
Metropolitan life through the eyes of a domestic servant, Minubai, who manages to retain her composure at different homes she works in, lacy undergarments from under the bedclothes, the birth control devices, the grief of a family that loses its son, but who draws the line in a home where men share a bed. The shy boy Hako and his classic Toby bicycle, two college-going youngsters moved by the plight of a servant and her child, getting off a Virar fast local, and the pain of human interactions.
