The entries have come from every part of India. And each year, the quality of works keeps becoming better. The Bombay Art Society is one of the oldest art institution in the country. It is now holding its 120th annual exhibition at the Jehangir Art Gallery. To encourage professionals – those who have established themselves – and for students the society gives awards. This year the ‘Roopdhar’ honour goes to Laxman Shreshtha. The society’s president Prafulla Dahanukar says: “The society’s annual exhibition has historically become the prime place of discovery of new talented artists…” She said the society’s art building at Bandra will soon be completed and the dream building would be an outstanding landmark of Mumbai. The Art Society has the support of 2500 members.
