Old world architecture holder a huge fascination for artist Yashwant Shirwadkar. H goes to different parts of India and search of old forts, pilgrim centres (like Benaras) and heritage sites. And then, he puts them all on canvas.
His latest paintings based on historic and heritage sites and beauty of colourful Rajasthan are on display at the Jehangir Art Gallery. The exhibition will go on till Sunday.
Yashwant never uses the brush. It is always the knife which he uses to build even tiny images. Against the backdrop of buildings with domes and arches and huge pillars, tiny human forms appear. The typical Rajasthani costumes worn by man and women add to the overall impact of the composition. Finally what appears on the canvas is the artist’s impressions of a reality. The original form is not changed much but the artist freely uses some devices to increase the impact of the composition.
For instancae, the use of light and shade is a must in his painting and it adds to its appeal. This helps in brinigng about the desired degree of balance and harmony. The artist touches the original with a little more of light and colour and enhances beauty. The artist attaches great importance to ‘lavanya’ in his creations. In his art perceptions, evidently it plays a big part.
The paintings on Rajasthan will be on view at the Jehangir Art Gallery till Sunday.
And it is the 84th solo show! Of Yashwant Shirwadkar. In all probability, he holder a record in this regard.
