Delivering ‘The Ultimate Hospitality Experience’

Thursday, January 25, 2018

Every great venture begins with a dream and it takes all of the dreamer’s strength, patience and passion to reach for the stars to make his dream a reality. It is this very strength, patience, and passion which have taken Sarbendra Sarkar, Founder & MD Cygnett Hotels & Resorts, to the heights of success achieved by only those who “Dare to do, over Dream to do”.

Sarbendra Sarkar has founded and leads the ‘Cygnett Hotels and Resorts’ brand from the front and has ensured that all the rapidly growing Cygnett group properties achieved positive acceptance in the market. Even as the Cygnett group proliferates across India, he is now actively targeting the Middle East and South Asia to grow the Cygnett brand. In conversation with Dominic Rebello, Sarbendra reveals his dream of making Cygnett Group the UBER of its industry.

What is the idea behind Cygnett Hotels & Resorts?
We at Cygnett Hotels believe in three areas when it comes to giving a splendid experience to our guest - Versatile Offerings, Great Prices, Cygnetture Experience.

Our aim is to provide a Cygnetture service experience to all its guests, the Cygnett Hotels & Resorts was established in 2012. After two years of hard work and brand reputation build up, in April 2014 it began operating in India. A team of accomplished hospitality veterans decided to come together and address the need of the hour – a hotel company that is responsive to the demands of a metamorphosing the world without compromising on the ideals of good hospitality: quality, comfort and heartfelt service.

How are you different from others?
All hotels provide a room. Cygnett provides ‘Spaces’ served with its unique ‘Cygnetture Experience’
Cygnett provides the widest range of upscale, midscale, economy and budget space solutions for all the hospitality needs. Whether it is a space for a serious off-site office meeting, a fun family wedding or a relaxed vacation, Cygnett has the right space for their guest at an affordable price. It also serves with its gourmet Cygnetture experience, delivered through its proven best in class processes, and a next-gen technology engine. All of which makes Cygnett the only name you need to know for all your hospitality needs and events!

Any expansion plans?
Encouraged by the enormous industry recognition and user appreciation, Cygnett is actively working to add at least 12 to 15 hotels per year for the next three years which will work out to about 4000 rooms by 2020. And Cygnett is also planning towards to open over 103 hotels throughout 75 cities across South Asia and India within the next five years.

Your expectation from the Union Budget 2018?
As a Hotelier, my expectation from this 2018-19, year Union Budget for tourism and hospitality. This budget can be a big push towards increasing the digitization with high-tech solutions. While the government is aggressively marketing Brand India globally, it is imperative to focus towards infrastructure, digital infrastructure and the speed of clearances of hotel projects will have a positive impact on our business.

The business of hotels and restaurants which were affected by the liquor ban has gone down by at least 40%. So, liquor license policies need to be simplified for the star category hotels to attract more tourists.

Also, the government should focus on building a stronger ecosystem for the travel & hospitality industry and I wish for a simplified regulatory environment that can attract additional investment. Competition among investors will help new hoteliers to have more control over the terms of the contract and continuously spur the innovation economy.

Where do you see yourself five years down the road?
Over the next 5 years, our major thrust would be towards “Managing” properties. This would allow us to rapidly scale our footprint without compromising on the processes, systems and standards to deliver the ultimate hospitality experience which is really the end goal. Building our own properties over this time may also occur but would be significantly lower in numbers.
