Subhasish Das is the co-founder and CEO of Trukky. He has more than 10 years of experience in Operations and Project management domain across industries like Shipping and logistics. He started this venture with an aim to deliver quality service at a competitive price and back up every shipment with the latest technology & outstanding customer service.
In conversation with Dominic Rebello, Subhasish says, “Our vision is to revolutionize the way people hire transport solutions, and somewhat uberize cargo services for SMEs.”

What is the idea behind Trukky?
Trukky is web and app based online transport service provider that enables users to hire transport service online for quick for prompt and on-time delivery of goods and cargo. The idea germinated while one of my friends was seeking help in transportation; when researching about quotes from the market, I stumbled across the common industry norm of uneven market rates with no service delivery guarantee. This transcended into a discussion with Saswat (Trukky’s co-founder), and the idea of having an integrated APP for freight movement blossomed hereafter. Since the segment was huge yet fragmented, we decided to start with inter-city logistics in 2015.

How big is the potential for a business like yours?
Trukky’s first year revenue in 2015-16 was around one lakh, whereas in 2016-17 the turnover amounted to 2.5 crore. By this financial year end, we expect to hit above 15 crore in terms of annual revenue. Trukky’s expertise lies on providing on-demand retail logistics requirement of SMEs/MSME's with instant dynamic pricing on an online booking platform. This enables our customer to transport both part load and full load with end-to end solution. Trukky has so far  raised $400 K angel funding in 2 rounds; we are using the funds majorly in developing the product and its operations. As India becomes more open to trade and investment, the need for logistics services are also increasing proportionately, providing never-ending opportunities for service providers. We aim to build a comprehensive freight solution for SMEs and MSMEs through a road network of 10 lakh dedicated fleet connecting all major industrial zones across India.

How do you plan to scale up?
Till now, we have been focusing more on making the product highly scalable and user-friendly, alongside good YOY growth. Hereafter, our focus would be aggressively into customer acquisition and also expanding PAN India in the next 12-18 months. By last quarter of 2018, we aim to cover all major and minor industrial zones across India and move more than 50000 tons of cargo every month, backed by 100% mobile on-mobile operations. To create a greater impact, Trukky is also focused to uplift the social and economic lives of its drivers with regular engagement plans, free medical checkups and health awareness programs.

What is your vision for the company?
Our vision is to revolutionize the way people hire transport solutions, and somewhat uberize cargo services for SMEs, which currently is managed in a traditional and unorganized manner in our country. We are proud to say that our modernistic way of truck hiring service and fleet solutions bestow the way people used to hire transport solutions even few years back. The app’s mobile enabled technology seamlessly communicates with a network of truck operators to bring in a responsive value stream in the supply chain. With the unique advantage of timely delivery, competitive pricing, and ensuring safety of the shipment, we are striving hard to serve India’s freight market in the most efficient and tech-savvy way.

Where do you see yourself five years down the road?
As mentioned before, factors such as on-demand booking & load sharing along with instant pricing is what sets us apart from competitors in the business ecosystem. Our Proprietary Pricing Engine( Unique both nationally & globally) ensures instant dynamic pricing to customers both for load sharing as well as full truck load. With more user friendly data driven smart automated process is bound to affect our conversion ratio in a positive way in the years to come. Apart from introducing such disruptive innovations in the market, five years down the road we intend to capture a major portion of the retail transport service through digitally connected nation wide network of over 10 lakh truckers.
