Dr. Kiran Coelho, Dr. Sheilja Singh and Bollywood personalities Bhagyashree, Alankrita Sahai,  Payal Ghosh and Himmanshoo Malhotra participate at a Women’s Day function at Hinduja Healthcare Surgical, Khar.

The International Women’s Day was celebrated by a host of organisations in different ways, including debates and discussions yesterday in Mumbai. An interactive session focusing on women’s health 'Push for Progress' was organised  by the Hinduja Healthcare Surgical, Khar, Consultant gynecologist and obstetrician Dr. Kiran Coelho and consultant physician and lifestyle management specialist Dr. Sheilja Singh, spearheaded the session. The Bollywood personalities were composed of  Bhagyashree, Alankrita Sahai,  Payal Ghosh and Himmanshoo Malhotra.

Dr Coelho, said that although women successfully juggle their roles, they tend to ignore  their health. As such we want to encourage women who suffer due to unavoidable circumstances to have an open chat about problems concerning their health.

Bhagyashree said, “Happiness and smiles, both have 'I" in the centre suggesting that you have to look after yourself first. Women's Health often takes a back seat in their lives as they tend to focus more on their husband, children, family  and career. Women’s health takes a back seat due to lack of information, hormonal imbalance or simply delay in availing treatment.

Dr.Singh said that many health issues are not totally preventable due to hereditary and genetic causes, but one can still take precautions and make simple lifestyle changes to live a healthy life.  We urge women to progress in every walk of life without compromising on their health.

The interactive session took note of the fact that over 50 per cent Indian women are anaemic and postpartum depression is quite common, awareness is low and  new mothers hesitate to seek support. STDs are on a rise despite the assumption that protective measures or contraceptives are finding more buyers. One in five women are diagnosed with PCOS and the statistics reveal that the situation is alarming.

At a function held in Goregaon, Maharashtra Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare Vidya Thakur, distributed sanitary napkins among over 300 women. Corporator (Ward No 57) Srikala Pillai, BJP North District Committee President Sarita Rajpure and others were present.
