Around nine alleged Bangladeshis, including four minors, were caught by Special Branch Unit-1 (SB-1) of CID, a wing of city police, after they raided the MHADA colony in Shivaji Nagar locality. Interestingly, these alleged Bangladeshis had two flats in their names and were residing in the city for last three decades.

According to SB-1 sources on the basis of reliable information with the help of the Shivaji Nagar police, a  trap was laid  near the MHADA colony even as they reached the Roshni Co-Operative Society in which both the families are residing. “Initially they produced us documents, including ration cards and and passports which they made. We are verifying from where they were made and which documents they had submitted to get such documents. During the raid we took nine persons, including four minors into custody.”

“These people were residing in two different flats in MHADA colony which is very shocking, how did these people get the flats. Mumbaikars face so many problems in document verification before getting allotments, but how did these people get documents, is something we are investigating,” sources said.

The arrested persons have been identified as Saeeda Moharamali Sheikh (46), her son Gulam Mustafa Yusuf Sheikh (26), his wife Mariyan Gulam Mustafa Sheikh (22) while the other family members have been identified as Foolbano Sakoorali Mulla (33), her husband Sakurali Kadar Mulla (45) and their four minor children. Saeeda's son Riyaz Sheikh was residing in Bangladesh which was revealed in the investigation.

After their mobile phones were seized, it was verified by the CID that there are two or three numbers on which both family members are in constant touch, their Call Detail Record (CDR) would be secured  and with the help of that we come to know who is the person with whom these people are in touch, we have evidence that their relatives are in Bangladesh and people are Bangladeshis, sources added.

Once legal formalities would be done and they would be accordingly found guilty than we will deport them to Bangladesh, we have booked them under Section 3, 6 of The Passport (entry into india) Act, 3 (1) of the Foreigners Order Act and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act.

All the arrested persons have been sent to Judicial Custody.
