A new app to locate garbage in the city!

A Garbage Locator Application was launched on March 22, Tuesday. The app was developed by 5 students of D. J. Sanghvi Aditya Bhatt, Shantanu Ugemuge, Harsh Parmar, Anmol Sheth and Atharva Naik. Dr. Pallavi Darade, Additional Municipal Commissioner (AMC) of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), was present as a chief guest under whom the department of Solid Waste Management falls.

In the introductory speech by Shantanu Ugemuge, he spoke about the motive behind developing the 'Garbage Locator' application being the "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" campaign that has been lauded nationwide. He described the journey of the application and also how Dr. Darade supported them. The Principal of DJSCE, Dr Hari Vasudevan encouraged and appreciated the initiative taken by students and assured the BMC, “The students of this college would help you at every step of this journey, keeping in mind the greater goal of the "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan",” Dr. Vasudevan said.

A presentation was made by the mind behind the application, Aditya Bhatt. Bhatt demonstrated the working of the application from the point of view of two kinds of users’ - the citizens as well as the BMC officials. He also described some of the challenges faced during the development of the application along with the suggestions the BMC gave which were taken into account and implemented. Anmol Sheth presented the details of the application and said, “the application has achieved a phenomenal 95% success rate and also acknowledged Dr. Pallavi Darade, AMC for her support in this application.

Among the other dignitaries present at the occasion were Parag Masurkar  Assistant Municipal Commissioner K/west ward,  Dr. Sanjay Ugemuge, Founder Sanjiwan Socio Medical Foundation and Ajay Patne, Assistant Chief Engineer SWM.
