A chain-snatcher was nabbed within half an hour of a robbery by alert Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) staff. On one side, where both the authorities are busy competing with each other, this case sets an example of what can be achieved if they work in tandem.

On Tuesday, at around 3pm when a local train was leaving from Platform No 8 of Kurla for an onward journey, Police Constable teamof V.B. Athawale, Pradeep Gite, Rakesh Meena and Chhoturam while on patrolling duty, heard ladies from the first class compartment shouting aloud "Chor- Chor", with direction indications towards the guard's side and saw the suspect running toward Kurla (E). All the cops were busy patrolling the station and realised that there was a problem in the ladies compartment. Without wasting any time, the police staff chased and nabbed the  suspect identified as Yeshu Shambu Gawali (17). Yeshu was previously apprehended by the RPF Kurla on October 9 for  snatching a mobile from a lady commuter. The minor accused is a resident of Sion, Koliwada. The offender was brought to the RPF office Kurla, where a stolen mobile, MI Note worth Rs 11,000 was  seized from his possession. In the mean time, the owner of the phone called on the stolen mobile and informed the police that the device belonged to her.

Interestingly on the other hand, the police nabbed another accused who had escaped in a different direction. The GRP staff came to the Kurla RPF office with another offender identified as Naushad Ahmed Abdul Sheikh (22), a resident of Kasaiwada at Kurla. It was revealed that he was the accomplice of the main minor accused apprehended by the RPF. The victim who got off the train at Chunabhatti, headed to the Kurla's RPF office and said her name was Dr. Neha Pranav Mandovara from Chembur, and stated that the offender had snatched her mobile phone when the train departed from Kurla and jumped off board. The offenders were sent to custody of the Kurla GRP. A case has been registered against the offenders under Sections 392 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
