After under going a nine-and-a-half hour procedure yesterday at the Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is now in the ICU and is recouping well. Gogoi had come to the institute on last Friday after experiencing pain in the chest and discomfort. He was advised cardiac surgery.
“Gogoi was under steroid replacement therapy and double chamber pacemaker implantation had been done in 2006. Investigations revealed aortic valve disease in the form of narrowing and regurgitation i.e. the valve not opening normally and two arterial blockages,” said Dr.Ramakanta Panda, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Asian Heart Institute.
“The team did two bypass grafts, changed the aortic valve and enlarged the artery. The operation went off smoothly. Tarun Gogoi is fit and fine,” added Dr Panda.
“He is in the ICU right now and will be there for three days. After that we will take a call on when to discharge him,” said Dr. Vijay D’Silva, Medical Director of the institute.
