Women had told murderer to return borrowed cash
Swift action by the Bhayandar police resulted in a double murder case being solved in less than 48 hours. Police on Wednesday arrested one assailant allegedly involved in the brutal murder of two middle-aged women in Bhayandar on Monday night.
The murders, according to the police, were the fallout of soured relationship and money transactions, between the two women and the accused, who has been identified as Abbas Nasir Hussain Sayyed (37). It should be noted that, Flora Patrick Rodrigues (44) and her friend Shilpa Ramesh Gandhi (38) were brutally murdered at the former’s first floor apartment in Hema Kunj building, situated near the Bhadrakali Temple in Bhayandar (West).
The gruesome murder came to light when Flora’s son Nigel, who stays with his grandmother at Vasai, visited his Bhayandar residence at around 9:30 pm on Monday.
Suspecting the involvement of an acquaintance into the crime, investigating officers from the Bhayandar police station led by Police Inspector, Sunil Vadke, gained a valuable clue when they discovered that the mobile phones of both the deceased were missing.
Working out on a strong possibility that the deceased were acquainted with the assailants and that the crime may have not been for gain alone, the police team zeroed in on murder suspect - Abbas Sayyed - a resident of Ramdev Park in Mira Road.
Investigations revealed that Sayyed, who shared cordial relationships with both the women for the past couple of years and had borrowed Rs 15,000 money from Flora, however when she demanded back the money, Abbas who is said to be a professional criminal planned the murders.
Hinting at more arrests into the case, Thane (Rural) SP, Ravindra Sengaokar said, “We believe the involvement of more than one person in the crime as it is not possible for Abbas alone to overpower two women and stab them to death.”
Dismissing earlier claims, that ruled out robbery as the motive, the investigating team now also claims that gold ornaments worth more than Rs 10 lakh had gone missing from the house, however the stolen booty was yet to be recovered.
Meanwhile, the accused has been booked under Section 302 of the IPC has bee remanded to police custody till October 9.
