Bomb squad acquires two robots

THE state Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) is all set to introduce two robots in their team. This wireless bomb disposal robot, a compact machine that will not only be able to indicate the nature of an explosive device but also be able to defuse bombs. The trial run of these robots have already been done in Chandigarh and an order for two robots have been placed.

Defence Security Services, a Chandigarh firm has entered into an agreement with the Mumbai police and will be providing the robots, which are being used by police across the world. The robot is equipped with applications like  remote monitoring and controlling for analysis of any suspicious object. It also allows the user to handle the bomb using the robotic arm and which can be blasted on the spot.

The robot can also be mounted with accessories, including a weapon. It can cover a distance of 100 metres, search and locate a bomb at any location and cut the wires before disposing it off.
