Two, including 74-year-old man held, factory seized

In one of the major drug rackets busted by Mumbai Police in recent times, the Amboli police arrested two men and recovered a total of 75 litres of Mephedrone Drugs (MD), also known as ‘meow meow’, worth Rs 7.50 crore in liquid form.

Former Encounter specialist and Police Inspector (PI) attached to Amboli police Daya Nayak and his team nabbed two accused in this connection, including a 74-year-old man, who was running the unit to manufacture  the drugs. Ater his arrest Amboli police seized the Badlapur-based company and lots of raw materials was also seized which were used to create the MD drugs.

According to Amboli police sources, late night on Friday, P I Daya Nayak got a tip that few people are likely to come to Veera Desai road's Sham Nagar locality, on that basis Daya Nayak along with his team laid a trap and as the accused Shahid Hussain Shah landed to deliver the drugs they nabbed him with 300 gram drugs worth Rs six lakhs.

After finding liquid form drugs in his possession, Amboli police were also stunned as such kind of drugs have not yet made an appearance in the market yet, in what was  a first of its kind detection.

During the interrogation accused Shah revealed that this drugs were made in one of the factories in Badlapur which is owned by Narayanbhai Mangaldas Patel (74), and on his direction police reached there and seized two water-cans containing 78 liters liquid, and other materials which were used to make MD drugs.

During the interrogation police learned  that the arrested accused Patel was also arrested in a similar case in 2009 and was out on bail, but being a hardcore habitual offender he again got into the business. He used to supply the drugs to the national and international markets and big overseas drug mafias are in  touch with him, police said.

Both the arrested accused Shah and Patel have been booked under relevant section of NDPS Act and produced before the Bandra court, they have been sent into Police Custody till April 17, more arrests are likely in this case, police added.
