Cylinder blast injures mother-daughter duo

A level one fire was reported early morning at the Malvani Gate No. 8, Mahad Colony, Malad. The call was recorded at 6.43 am and the cause of fire was reportedly a cylinder blast. Although the fire was doused by locals who used buckets of water, the fire severely injured a mother-daughter duo. The mother, Nilopher Shaikh (32) received 60 per cent burns while her daughter Ekara suffered 40 per cent burns. Both were admitted to the Care Hospital in a private vehicle before the arrival of the fire brigade.

According to  Mumbai Fire Brigade sources, the fire was confined to the sixth floor apartment of the ground plus six building. It was caused by an LPG gas cylinder explosion and spread to accumulated clothes, electrical wiring and electrical equipment within the apartment. It was extinguished by neighbours who used buckets of water after cutting off the electric supply. The victims are currently undergoing treatment.
