Dreaded don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, who is ailing from diabetes, has been undergoing dialysis for the past few months due to kidney problems. The health of the 57-year old Karachi-based gangster, who is confined to a wheelchair, is being monitored 24x7 by an expert team of doctors and close associates.
Dawood, who also had couple of heart attacks in the recent past, is unable to walk the way he used to and uses a wheel chair to move about.
As reports about his heart attack had rocked the underworld, his family and aides have kept the news of the dialysis treatment hidden from all.
Anees Ibrahim, brother of Dawood and Chhota Shakeel, are now the closest to the don and are reportedly with him most of the time. However, as per reports, Dawood is already busy planning his burial in India. He has ordered his close associates in Mumbai and in his native town of Khed in Ratnagiri district to find a suitable place for his burial.
According to crime branch sources, the don is very ill, but nobody is aware of his dialysis treatment. “Yes, there were reports about Dawood’s ill health. But the dialysis is yet to be confirmed,” a crime branch source said.
The Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said, "We track underworld activities overseas and we will study this issue."
Dawood is amongst the most wanted men in India and was branded a global terrorist by the US, post 9/11. He is also suspected to have provided logistical support to the 26/11 Mumbai attackers.
Although Delhi has time and again demanded that he be extradited, Islamabad has held on to its view that he doesn’t live in Pakistan, and hence the chances of him being brought here to stand trial are remote. According to sources, the don has also shaved off his moustache and remains cleaned shaven.
