The Charkop Police on Wednesday produced a lawyer and his wife at the Borivali court in a Rs 6 crore cheating case. They were later sent into police custody till February 11.
The duo took large number of investors into confidence and took huge sums of money, promising them a dream home in the city. The affected people were assembled in court when the accused were brought into the police station. The police is expected to arrest more people in the case.
The police arrested the lawyer and his wife last week. The duo were identified as Sonali Kalidas Chandne Director of Prisa Developer and her advocate husband Kalidas Chandne, who poses as legal advisor of Aditya Realtor and Prisha Developer Pvt Ltd. They allegedly duped people under the pretext of booking flats while showing someone else’s land.
It is being said that the accused builders had promised to give position of flats within two years after the booking, but till today construction work of the building has not started. When the investors asked for their money they were given post-dated cheques, which later bounced. It is also said that the accused had given cheques whose account was already closed.
One of the investor Vipul Sanghvi, who was present in the Borivali court hearing, said, ''I paid my hard earned money of Rs 4.5 lakhs to an agent Mihir Ashok Ojha, who is one of the accused.'' Ojha was arrested in August 2017 but later released on bail.
All the accused were booked under Sections 406, 420, 438, 120 (B) of IPC and under relevant section of the MOFA act.
