Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas in Kurla today

Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas will be celebrated today in Kurla; children from across the city will be seen worshipping their parents – the children will garland their parents, perfrom aarti and also offer sweets in the presence of Subramanian Swamy, politician from the state of Tamil Nadu. After promoting February 14 as Parents’ Worship Day (Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas), by Asaram Bapu by putting up posters and hoardings across the city by Bharitya Yuva Shakti and Yuva Heet Karni Sangh. Sangh members said this campaign has been in place since the past 10 years ever since Bapu first spoke of 'Divine Valentine's Day' in 2004.

As per the orders from the government, schools will observe the day every year. The ritual began in the schools of Chhattisgarh two years ago after Bapu urged Raman Singh the Chief Minister to replace Valentine's Day with Matru-Pitru Diwas. Invitations have been sent to all people across the city, through Facebook, Twitter etc to join the Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Krida Mandal, Nehru Nagar, Kurla from 5 pm-9 pm today.

A special signature campaign will be also held by the Yuva Shakti and Sangh members to declare 14 February 14 as Parents' Worship Day.

The four-hour event will impart “theoretical and practical” lessons to parents and children.

“Sermons from religious leaders on Indian culture will stress on respecting our parents. Children will be given training by Brahmins who will recite shlokas and perform rituals to teach them how to greet, respect and worship their parents,” said a Sangh member.

The occasion will be graced by Maha Mandleshwar Shri Sunil Shastriji Maharaj, Ramesh Shinde (National spokesperson Hindu Jag Jagriti Samiti) and Sadhvi Taruna Didi. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend.
