All the beautification works of the new upcoming metro stations, including broadening, will be handled by the MMRDA

In a development which brings a smile to the faces of commuters, the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA), which handles the metro projects is going to beautify the new metro stations and along with it, plans to widen them as well.

According to sources, the current metro stations are way too narrow and congested. The MMRDA officials believe that the current Metro 1 stations (Ghatkopar to Versova), which is operational since 2014, block the entry of sunlight and are way too narrow. The MMRDA has tweaked designs for the Metro line 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar East) and Metro line 2A (Dahisar to D.N.Nagar). The authorities are looking forward to make the stations easily accessible to people, as well as being passenger-friendly.

The MMRDA will be using all kinds of urban elements for the improvement of the upcoming metro stations. A senior MMRDA official, on the condition of anonymity said, “We are planning to have more ATMs at the metro stations. Along with it, we are planning a lot of beautification at the stations using paintings, postboxes, and more.”

The authorities are looking into the proposed plan and the proposed designs of stations on the two upcoming metro lines. According to a MMRDA official, once the plan is ready, the authorities will also plan the metro station's skywalks.

Along with it, the MMRDA authorities are also going to link all the upcoming suburban metro stations in a bid to ease the commuter experience.
