After Iqbal Kaskar, now DK Rao held in extortion case. Mumbai-Thane police on an avowed mission to put a halt to the functioning of criminal gangs

After the arrest of Iqbal Kaskar and his aides by the Thane Police recently, the Mumbai Police too seems to be on a mission to finish off criminal gangs'in the city. The detection crime branch, late night on Wednesday, arrested gangster Chhota Rajan's most trusted aide – DK Rao for allegedly extorting money from a person connected with the construction business.
According to Crime Branch sources, gangster DK Rao was arrested after an extortion case was registered against him at the Dharavi police station. The complainant in the case works as a consultant for one of the SRA projects at Antop Hill. He alleged that the developer had to pay him around Rs 1.5 crore, but instead he was threatened by Rao with dire consequences and also asked to pay a ransom.

Rao, who was released from jail a year ago, faces allegations of extorting money from builders and others. His activities have come under the surveillance scanner of the Crime Branch, time and again. He was arrested in connection with the case at hand after his involvement was confirmed, sources added.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dilip Sawant, ''The complainant has been threatened with dire consequences by DK Rao who also demanded a ransom. More people are likely to be arrested in the case under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). An FIR has been registered under Sections 387, 504, 506 (II), 34 and 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment act.''

DK Rao has around 47 criminal cases registered against him.

  •  He was also involved in journalist Jyotirmoy Dey's Murder case.
  •  His name was circled in the Escape Club owner BR Shetty firing case.
  •   Earlier, he escaped from an encounter done by Mumbai Crime Branch in Dadar.
