Two foetuses and a day-old dead baby found dumped within a day
In a span of just 24 hours, two foetuses and a one-day-old dead baby were found dumped in separate garbage bins in the city. The two foetuses were found early on Friday morning in Kurla’s Makadwala compound at Jai Shankar Chowk, while the body of the day-old baby was found on Thursday evening, at around 5 p.m. in Khar’s Waripada area.
The foetuses at Kurla, one of a four-month-old boy and of a two-month-old baby were found at the same spot. “The sex of the two-month-old baby is yet to be determined,” said Arunkumar Aaigal, senior inspector of V. B. Nagar police station.
According to the police, two patrolling policemen saw people gathered near a garbage bin in Kurla. On going across to enquire, they found the two foetuses lying in the garbage bin.
“We have started our investigation to find out whether any maternity home is carrying out abortions and dumping foetuses in the garbage bin. There is also a possibility that the abortions might have been carried illegally in some other part of the city and the foetuses were then dumped here. Only after investigations into the matter would we be able to ascertain the facts of the case,” said Neelkanth Shivli, inspector at V.B. Nagar police station.
The Nehru Nagar police have registered a case under section 315 (Act done with the intent to prevent a child being born alive to cause it to die after birth) of IPC, while the Khar police have registered a case under section 318 (Concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) of IPC. Further investigations are on with regard to both cases.
