In an exclusive interview with The Afternoon D&C Music Writer Verus Ferreira, Devraj Sanyal, MD & CEO Universal Music & EMI Music, South Asia, reveals what is in store for this year’s Enchanted Valley Carnival at Aamby Valley, Lonavala.

How different would EVC 2017 be from last year?
Every year, we aim to introduce some stellar acts of different genres from across the globe for our fans. Our production team works round the year to enhance the look and feel of the festival from the music, to camping to the culinary experience. Our goal is not to be different each year but to build on what we already have and create the best experience that a festival has to offer. We’ve kick started the 5th edition with the Electronic Family stage announcement and I can’t wait to announce our headliner this year. We’ve had some amazing Trance artists perform at EVC in the past and I’m super excited to be working with one of the finest brands in the trance and electronica music space.

When it comes to signing of artists for the festival, what role does Universal Music play?
Our team at Universal Music is always exposed to established and emerging talent and we try to ensure that we make it a good mix to include as many artists as we can. We will only grow our line up each year and make our true blooded multi genre music festival even bigger.

Last year the hot air balloon which was a kind of trademark at the festival for adventure lovers before Universal Music came in, was missing. Why was it not there last year and would it be there this year?
The hot air balloon may just make a comeback this year along with a host of new things that no one has seen in a festival here in India.

With Bollywood part of EVC since last year, thus catering to a majority of festival goers, would this year see some upcoming Indian Independent acts?
Independent Indian acts have always been an integral part of the festival. We’ve had indie acts perform in the past and we will continue to encourage talent from all over the country.

As lead singer of metal act Brahma, would rock music be a part of EVC this  year or in the future?
We’re always open to the idea of adding different elements to mix things up. Rock, Jazz, Blues are slightly more niche variants, but I promise you all of them will become a part of EVC in the very near future.

What activities does EVC offer for campers before the main festival starts (4pm) and after it ends (10 pm)?
At Enchanted Village, there’s something to do at any given point for campers. There’s Painting, Poi, Dream catcher making workshops, tarot card reading, volley ball and foosball along with adventure activities like Bungee jumping, ATV riding. Post festival hours, our silent party commences along with the bonfire and jamming sessions which go on till wee hours. There are also the after parties that go on till very late as they are in fully enclosed spaces.
