Police to lodge suo motto cases against Chain Marketing company ads

The State Government will issue orders to police to take suo-motto cognisance and file cases if they see any advertisements related to any Chain Marketing companies. Replying to supplementary queries on calling attention notice moved by Prakash Gajbhiye (NCP), Minister of State for Home (Urban) Dr. Ranjit Patil added that orders will be issued to curb incidents of cheating.

Raising a supplementary query, Gajbhiye stated that thousands of people are being cheated for financial fraud. Replying to supplementary queries, Minister of State for Home (Urban) stated that cases registered in Chain Marketing have seen a rise in the state. In 2016, 7,049 cases were filed, while 7,918 cases were filed in 2017 against Chain Marketing companies, indicating a rise of 12 per cent. In his written reply, the Chief Minister informed the house that 6 cases were filed against the Q-Net company in the state, in Thane, Pune, Nagpur and Solapur. He added that chargesheets against 30 accused have been filed in the Special MPID court.

Patil further stated that banks have been told not to extend credit to such Chain Marketing companies. He added that 29 cases have been filed against Chain Marketing companies across the country and 31 people from Vihan Direct Selling India, a franchise of Q-Net,  have been arrested. So far, the government has seized Rs. 144 crores from bank accounts of these companies. Besides this, with due consent from the High Court and intimation to the Centre, the websites through which the business was being carried out have now been taken down.
