Railways goes full throttle with Medha local!

With the first 'Made–In-India' local train Medha already commencing its service on the Western Railway, more trains are on their way. However, the Railway Ministry has no plans to replace the Bombardier and Siemens local trains with the recently inducted Medha trains.

The reason for not replacing the Siemens and Bombardier with Medha local trains is due to the decrease in supply and the increase in demand. Afternoon D&C spoke to the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu who stated different factors for not replacing the trains with Medha local trains in the near future.

“A lot of thought process has gone into the manufacturing of Medha local trains and there will definitely be more Medha trains operating on the suburban section. However, with the increase in commuters the demand for the local trains have increased and the supply is still less. Replacing Siemens and Bombardier local trains in the future with Medha locals is not on the cards. Currently, we are working on different strategies for the suburban route,” said, Suresh Prabhu.

On Saturday Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the long-awaited Medha, 'Made–In–India' local train via video conferencing between Dadar and Borivali. Medha has been manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, which has installed LED lighting to reduce energy consumption. The rake can run at a speed of 110 kmph. Meanwhile, one more Medha train will soon be inducted in Western Railway.
