Congress leaders Kripashankar Singh and Naseem Khan met Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi seeking removal of Mumbai Unit Chief Sanjay Nirupam and appointment of Milind Deora to the post

All is not well in the Mumbai Congress and with the feud in the party's city unit out in the open ahead of the general elections, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has taken  serious cognizance of the simmering feud, with senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge being assign to handle this crucial task.

Congress leaders Kripashankar Singh and Naseem Khan met Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi few days back and demanded that the Mumbai Unit Chief Sanjay Nirupam be
removed.

They have also insisted that former Union minister Milind Deora be made the Mumbai Congress Chief. Both Singh and Khan expressed serious concerns over Nirupam's unilateral style of functioning.

Nirupam, a former Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member, had deserted the saffron party and joined the Congress. He later took charge as Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) president in March 2015. With Nirupam's style of functioning, the city Congress is a divided house with several party leaders not getting along with Mumbai president.
There were spate of  allegations and counter allegations from both the sides.

As the general elections are approaching fast, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has decided to intervene and solve the issues. He has also asked Kharge to take  stock of the situation. The anti Nirupam group briefed Kharge about the prevailing worrisome situation. All leaders of the party from Mumbai had met Rahul Gandhi and discussed the issue last month. However, the deadlock is still continuing.

It may be recalled that former Union Minister of State and close aide of Congress president Milind Deora had said that he was disappointed with what is happening in the party's Mumbai unit and would reconsider contesting the coming Lok Sabha election.
