Scot lands in jail for aerial photography using drone

A 30-year-old Scottish national passionate about photography landed in trouble after being caught by the Santacruz police flying a banned drone at the Juhu Chowpaty. Thomas Jonse landed in the city just a day before being picked up by police.

According to police sources, Jonse was seen flying a drone, which are banned in India, at the crowded Juhu Chowpaty which falls the under the Santacruz police jurisdiction. He was shooting videos and taking pictures using the drone, totally unawares that it is banned in the city.

An on-duty patrol team was alerted by a citizen about some foreign national flying a drone on the crowded beach. The cops immediately reached the spot and inquired with Jonse. He admitted to bringing in the done from his country and shooting videos and pictures with it. However, he also informed the cops that he was totally unaware about the ban.

The cops took him to the Santacruz police station for further investigations, and booked him under Section 188. His belongings were thoroughly checked but nothing suspicious was found, sources added.

Senior Police Inspector Shriram Koregaonkar of Santacruz Police station said, “We arrested and produced him before the court, but he was released on bail. He hails from Scotland and is staying in one of the hotels in the city. He was caught for flying a drone. We are investigating further.”
