Sena calls BJP backstabber

The Shiv Sena which stood by the BJP by refusing to participate in Monday's Bharat Bandh called by the Congress over rising prices, yesterday lashed out at the BJP saying it came to power by climbing on the Hindutva ladder but discarded it once its purpose was met.In its mouthpiece Saamana, the Sena has directly accused the BJP of stabbing Hindutva in the back by breaking alliance with the Shiv Sena prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The party has further stated that not a single promise made to Hindus has been fulfilled until now.

Meanwhile, the Sena has asked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to fulfill his promise of withdrawing police cases filed against Maratha community members during their violence-marred stir for reservation. Expressing solidarity with the Marathas who are seeking reservation in government jobs and educational institutions, the Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray made this demand of the government.

While speaking to reporters at his residence after meeting convenors of the Maratha Kranti Morcha (MKM) Thackeray said, “The CM had promised that cases against Maratha youth will be taken back. He should keep his word now. The Sena stands firmly with the Maratha community. Now they have sought my intervention over this contentious issue.”

“The Maratha community came out on the streets after time and again demanding reservation along with other demands. Lakhs of people took part in the marches that were earlier carried out peacefully. However, they were not taken seriously and so they took out a thok morcha (hit march). Some unscrupulous elements took advantage of the Maratha protests and engaged in violence during the stir in July-August,” he added further.
