The state cabinet yesterday approved the proposal to the Metro 9 corridor between Dahisar to Mira-Bhayandar, extending it beyond Mumbai. The cabinet also gave its nod to the new Metro 7A line that would link Dahisar to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The total length of both the Metro corridors is 13.58 km and total cost is estimated at Rs 6,607 crore. The Metro 9 corridor of 10.41 km will be completely elevated. Since the Dahisar-Mira-Bhayandar corridor connects the suburban railway network, it will save commuting time by 30 to 40 minutes.

The Metro 7A corridor which is 3.17 km, comprises of 0.98 km elevated and 2.19 km underground corridor. The initial ticket costs for these corridors ranges between Rs 10 for first 0 to 3 km to Rs 80 for 42 km or more. In this segment there will be 10 elevated stations and one underground station.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will get a interest-free subsidiary loan of Rs 1,631 crore for land cost and central and state government taxes. The rest of the project cost will be raised through bilateral, multilateral, international, Life Insurance Corporation of India, bonds and other financial institutions. The land required for the project, from the center, state, local self-governing bodies and semi-government bodies will be acquired either permanently or on temporary basis. The rehabilitation of the Project Affected People (PAPs) will be done as per the MUTP-Relief and Rehabilitation policy. The project is expected to be completed by March 2022 and the government expects a passenger footfall of 8.47 lakh passengers.
