The former Chief Minister and state Congress president Ashok Chavan yesterday categorically stated that with the Congress's thumping victory in the Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation elections the return journey of BJP has now begun.

Congress on Thursday made a clear sweep in the Nanded civic election trouncing the BJP.   Speaking to reporters at Congress office, Chavan said, “The voters of Nanded have bolted the doors on false claims of the BJP. The people of Nanded have also given blow to the large scale defection instrumented by the BJP during the election”.

“The saffron party had gone down to a new low during the campaigning. Systematically mud slinging  was done. However, the people of Nanded remained firm and stood by the Congress. I salute the voters of Nanded. This is a beginning of the downfall of the BJP and at the same time upward trend has also started for the Congress,” he added further.

Meanwhile, NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik has also came down heavily on the BJP saying that the ruling party has used huge money power during the campaign in Nanded. This has boomeranged.

The former CM Narayan Rane who recently deserted the Congress after criticizing Chavan has publicly congratulated  him on the victory in Nanded.
