The Lord Shanidev Temple, situated at Ghas-Kopri village in Virar (East) seems to have become a favourite spot for two burglars. A second theft at the temple within a month’s span has left devotees in a state of shock and disbelief. After breaking into the temple on January 18, the two unidentified burglars repeated the act again on Tuesday night and once again decamped with valuables and cash that was collected in the donation box on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
Even though both the break-ins have been captured by the closed circuit television cameras (CCTV), with clear footages of both the thieves, the police are struggling with the investigations and have been unable to make any arrests. The CCTV footage captured on Tuesday clearly shows two people conveniently removing the ornaments and crown worn by deity and even picking up money from a donation box and stuffing it into a gunny bag.
A case of theft has been registered by the temple trustees at the Virar police station. Further investigations are on.
