Propose 600 new educational institutions in next 15 yrs

In their venture to improve quality education at the school level across the country by providing teachers with quality training, two of the big educational institutes – Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) and the Azim Premji Foundation (APF) have jointly embarked on an experiment by proposing to establish around 600 educational institutes across India.

The institutes will collaboratively work on educational aspects like curriculum, teaching, and so on. Moreover, they have claimed that their degree courses like MBA are unconventional and have been drafted to meets tomorrow’s global issues.

Both APF and TISS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish Azim Premji School of Education (APSE) at TISS’ Hyderabad campus. Besides offering degree courses, the school would also be carrying out research work in the field of education, the results of which will be shared with other educational institutes.

Lakshmi Lingam, Chairperson of TISS Hyderabad, said, “The population of youth is large in India as compared to any country in the world. Hence, it is one of the biggest challenges to educate and prepare platoons of youngsters for the future. If we fail to provide good education, instead of finding solution to global problems, we will simply compound it. This is why we need good educational institutes to create global leaders.”

According to APSE they will be offering Master’s courses in Art – Education (two years), Development (two years) and Teacher Education (two years), which would be commencing from the forthcoming academic year. Students will be selected on the basis of written tests and interview. During tests, student’s proficiency in English language, analytical ability, general and social awareness and subject knowledge will be judged.

Dileep Ranjekar, Chief Executive Officer of Azim Premji Foundation, said, “We will not only provide training to teachers, but will be shaping teachers who have the responsibility of defining our society. University is committed to developing outstanding professionals in the field of education and development for creating global leaders. We have planned to establish 600 educational institutes in the next 15 years.”
