Raj Thackeray mocks BJP victory, says EVMs won

Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray dared his estranged ruling ally the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold elections using ballot papers. Speaking to newspersons here yesterday after the Karnataka assembly elections were declared, the Sena president remarked that the riddle of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) has not been fully solved and hence to dispel all doubts elections should be held using ballot papers.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray, while commenting on the Karnataka poll results, jokingly remarked “Let there be victory of the EVMs”

The Sena president while congratulating the winners, remarked that those who get the reins of power should be respected. “The BJP victory is seen only in regular elections, in by-elections they loose. If the BJP is confident then let the matter be decided once and for all so that the opponents too keep quiet. The BJP has got success where it was not in power. However, where the BJP is in power the peoples experience can be different”, remarked Thackeray.

Commenting upon the May 28 Palghar (ST) Lok Sabha by-poll, Thackeray exuded confidence that the Sena shall win the elections. He argued that the Vanaga family was humiliated and that the Sena is contesting the by-poll to secure justice to the Vanaga family.

Reacting to the Karnataka assembly poll verdict, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis termed the victory setting course for a bigger one for the BJP and its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2019 polls. He added that the wave of hope created by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed into wave of faith and people have expressed it through the mandate.

Reacting to the Karnataka assembly elections, state Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Jayant Patil, too remarked that the people have lost faith in the EVMs. He added that many prominent people are arguing that the EVMs can be manipulated.

Patil further urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to set aside its insistence on use of EVMs and once again reintroduce ballot papers. He also expressed his displeasure over the one-way victory of the BJP in Karnataka assembly elections.
