Sena-BJP to kick off joint poll campaign from Kolhapur on March 24

Amidst the rise of dynasty of political families across political parties, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray scotched rumours of his son – Yuva Sena president Aaditya Thackeray taking the plunge into active electoral politics, as of now. Speaking to newspersons yesterday, the Sena president remarked, “I have not held Aaditya back. He (Aaditya) will decide as to whether or not to contest elections or not. But this time, he will not contest elections.”

However, sources in the Sena disclosed that the Thackeray scion may decide on contesting a bypoll after the assembly elections are over, depending upon the number of seats the Sena wins.

Hitting back at Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar's jibe at Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil's son Dr Sujay Vikhe-Patil joining the BJP, the Sena president sarcastically remarked that while he took care of sons from the BJP like his own, Senas philosophy is not of the one that makes others children to wash one's utensils. Thackeray sarcastically remarked that while the NCP chief is considered to be a crafty politician, one wonders when did he turn to astrology predicting political future of sons of other politicians.

Meanwhile, the first inaugural joint rally of Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Lok Sabha elections will be held at Kolhapur on March 24. Commenting upon his late night meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis yesterday, Thackeray stated that the draft of the joint poll strategy has been worked out.

The Sena president, however, evaded queries over sharing of contentious Lok Sabha seats like Jalna where Sena's minister of state for Textiles Arjun Khotkar has a running political feud with state BJP president and sitting MP Raosaheb Danve. He stated that he was keeping a watch wherever there are differences. However, he added that there are many cards up on his sleeve and would not disclose them right now. Thackeray further said that a decision will be taken once the two sides come to him for talks.

In a related development, both the alliance partners have appointed leaders from their respective sides to sort out differences between the two allies in the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies. Senior ministers and leaders like Arjun Khotkar, Pankaja Munde, Subhash Desai and others have been appointed to sort out differences between the cadres and chalk out joint poll campaigns.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Sena president Uddhav Thackeray will be addressing region wise joint meetings of party cadres on March 15, March 17 and March 18. A separate meeting of Sena, BJP cadres from Mumbai will be held on a later date. Replying to queries, Thackeray remarked that no one will be able to spoil the relations between Sena and BJP.
