Wadia hospital takes care of premature child rejected by her own mother

Wadia hospital has stepped forward to take care of a premature born 16-day-old baby which has been rejected by her own mother for being born with abnormal looks. The prematurely born 16-day-old baby suffers from a rare medical condition that has restricted the size of her head to that of a 26-week-old foetus.

Born to Mamata and Ajay Dode, a farmer from Palghar district in Maharashtra, on May 30 and two months premature, the baby was diagnosed with microcephaly, a neuro-developmental disorder in which the head circumference of the newly-born child is significantly smaller than normal, doctors of the Wadia Maternity Hospital said. “The mother, suffering from a post-partum depression, has rejected the baby”.

 The baby was admitted in NICU in view of dysmorphic features and very low birth weight with Intrauterine Growth retardation. The child was assessed by  neonatologists, sonologists, cardiologists, neurologists, with a multidisciplinary approach being followed for the child .

Dr Minnie Bodhanwala CEO of Wadia Hospitals said, “The hospital is taking all care of the child who is from Chalani gaav, Tivaspada, Post - Saayvan, Dahanu taluka. Grandfather Dilip Guna Dhode is happy that the baby is being treated with good care and he has seen improvement in the child.

MRI shows Semi-lobar  holoprosencephaly, which is an irrepairable congenital anomaly of the brain, the prognosis for the baby is poor, who will possibly have mental retardation, with possibilty of seizures.
