Nikita Sant-Bedekar has bagged the Nalanda Nritya Nipuna title for her brilliant Kathak performance at the Nalanda Nrityotsava, organised by Nalanda Dance Research Centre at Kalangan and at Kanaka Sabha in Juhu. The five dayfestival featured dancers in different styles, hailing from various parts of the country.

Twenty-two dancers participated in the Nalanda Young Dancers festival and ten dancers were selected for the Nalanda Nritya Nipuna title by the panel of judges. The others dancers who won the title are Aparna Ramakrishnan for Bharatanatyam, Ashwin Siddharth from Chennai for Bharatanatyam, Vrinda Chadha from New Delhi (Odissi), Laxmi Narayan Jena from Bangalore (Kathak), Shweta Venkatesh from Bangalore (Bharatanatyam), Suhani Dhanki (Bharatanatyam), Hrshada Jambekar (Kathak), Mithila Padhya (Mohiniattam) and Pranali Kalyankar (Bharata Natyam).

Nikita is the disciple of Guru Nutan Patwardhan, she commenced the performance with the invocatory 'Saraswati Vandance', seeking the blessings of the Goddess of learning and knowledge. Further on, Nikita performed 'teen taal' and executed various pure dance patterns with comfortable ease and precision. Her footwork revealed her command over 'layakari'. Slim and trim, Nikita dances with professional ease and poise. Nikita concluded her performance with the Surdas bhajan 'Shri Nand'.

Nikita received fine orchestral support from Vivek Mishra on tabla, Dr. Nutan on padant, Somnath with vocal and Alka Gujar on sarangi. Nikita can rise  to become one of the leading dancers, provided she continues to dance with the same zeal and passion.
