Sursagar Concert
At a time when many of his age love Western music, here is an exceptionally talented youngster who is a passionate sitarist and has won accolades for his mesmerising performances. Ankush Nayak from Mangalore will perform in ‘Sursagar’, which features  a rising star every month. He will be accompanied by Ojas Adhiya on (Tabla) at the Sri Shanmukhnanda Padma Ranga Chamber Music Hall, Sion, on Friday, January 12 from 7.30 pm onwards. Entry is free, and admission will be based on first come first served basis.

Musical Tribute to Lata-didi
A special musical program to pay tribute to legendary singer Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, who has completed 75 years as a playback singer, is being organised by the “Navras Art Academy” and Prasad Phanse at the Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi at 6.30 pm on Sunday, January 14. In keeping with the legend’s towering performance over  decades, Radhika Phanse, accompanied by other artists will also present “Kathak” dances. A few of Mangeshkar's songs will also be presented through “medley”, which is often done with tracks for a single artist. Journalist and music lover Ambrish Mishra will compere the show and will unfold the long musical journey of the singer through commentary, interspersed with important aspects of the songs and anecdotes.
 
Bhakti geet utsav
A Festival of Devotional Music has been organised by 'Sangit Mahabharati',on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Pt Nikhil Ghosh. The show that  began yesterday, is at Nehru Centre, Worli, and witnessed Kalapini Komkali  'sagun' and 'nirgun' bhajans on the first day, Chand Nizami and Party sang Sufi Quawalis. Today, actor-singer Shekhar Sen will present his musical play 'Soordas' at 7 pm.
 
Vyas-vandana vocal treat
The evening will begin with a performance by Sanjeev Chimmalgi, Young vocalist and disciple of Pandit C.R.Vyas with Vishwanath Shirodkar on Tabla and Seema Shirodkar on Harmonium. 16th C.R. Vyas Vandana will conclude with a tabla solo by Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri with Ajay Joglekar on the Harmonium, at the Veer Savarkar Auditorium, Shivaji Park, today at 7 pm.

Violin-tabla shishya peshkash
Prominent among the various co-initiatives undertaken by the NCPA are two schemes: Support to Gurus and Scholarships to Young Shishya Musicians. These programmes will be organised in the form of Hindustani vocal (dhrupad and khayal) and instrumental music (melody and percussion instruments). There will first be a tabla recital by Vaishnav Chavan followed by a violin recital by Anup Kulthe. Chavan is pursuing a MA degree in tabla from the Shivaji University Little Theatre. The show will be on Friday, January 12 at 6.30 pm.
