The Nritya Darpan Academy's 'Geet Govind', which portrays the immortal love story of Radha and Krishna, was performed by Bharatanatyam exponent Sandhya Damle and her team at the Veer Savarkar Auditorium, Shivaji Park. With beautiful music, 'Geet Govind' portrayed varied facets of the divine love.

Geet Govind is penned by the sage-poet Jayadeva who was an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna and vividly described the inter-relationhsip of Radha and Krishna that symbolised the relation of the human soul – 'Jevatma' for the 'parmatama'. With enchanting music rendered by the veteran Pandit Jasraj and Madhura Jasraj and the support of commendable singing by Shreya Goshal, Shankar Mahadevan, Malakshmi Iyer and Anuradha Paulwal, the entire presentation became a musical treat with dance choreography by Sandhya Damle who makes a gracious appearance as Radha too. The dance drama goes through three stages of love, pertaining to the first encounter, the separation and ultimately the union, supplemented with dances and expresions that take you on a journey of love in its varied situations of anxiety, pathos, suffering and ultimately the union of love that calls for celebration in its divine manifestation. With simple and some folk dance movements with the Gopis, the costumes were beautiful and elegant.

Tall and beautiful Sandhya Damle is capable of rendering a better performance. Folk artiste Shreyas Desai has a fine physique and made a fine attempt but needs to be more expressive, pertaining to the aesthetic and divine sensibility of Lord Krishna. The stage setting was pleasing to a certain extent but the lighting was superb. On the whole, it was wonderful musical experience.
