After 'Sanju' the film, Sanjay Dutt autobiography on cards

Friday, July 13, 2018

Even after the sensational box office success of the film ‘Sanju’ based on actor Sanjay Dutt’s life (which netted Rs 284.5 crore in 13 days at last count) has come the news that publishers HarperCollins will release Sanjay Dutt’s autobiography on July 29, 2019, his 60th birthday. Slated to tell his tumultuous life story in Sanjay’s own words, the book, according to Udayan Mitra (literary) publisher at HarperCollins will help readers, “…look into his soul. Finally, we will get to hear the fascinating stories about his youth, his Bollywood stint in the '80s and '90s, his experiences in prison, and his self-discovery, that have never been told before.” While we have no doubt that the book will be a bestseller and may even break some book records in the Indian market, we would like to point out that few actors have had as much newsprint devoted to them as has Sanjay Dutt. Right from his ‘Rocky’ days in the Eighties, whether he liked it or not, Sanjay Dutt has arguably been the most documented (and perhaps, controversial) star of his generation. His real-life story has been on the public radar for the last nearly four decades, irrespective of his hits, flops and everything else. While actors have come and actors have gone, many to never resurface in the public eye again, Sanjay Dutt, like the Energizer bunny, keeps going on and on…and so it should be!
