Alankrita Shrivastava is at FICCI Frames

Monday, March 05, 2018

Filmmaker Alankrita Shrivastava who made the compellingly different ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ is scheduled to be on a woman leaders’ panel at the FICCI Frames convention (March 5-7) which is currently being held at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Santacruz (E). Alankrita, who is one among a growing tribe of courageous women’s voices in our urban milieu, will be speaking along with other well-known panellists such as actor Gul Panag, author Kiran Manral, journalist Nirmika Singh and film producer Vishakha Singh. The panel proceedings will be live-streamed by Twitter in celebration of the upcoming International Women’s Day and moderated for the social media engine by Twitter’s Maya Hari, managing director of Asia Pacific region.
Alankrita tells us that one of the things she will be focussing on will be on how social media is proving empowering for women: “I’m a relatively new entrant to Twitter, I signed up just about a year-and-a-half ago,” she says. “But in that short period, I’ve managed to connect with other women filmmakers around globe and have learned so much about the conditions they work under and the issues they face. Women need a lot of support because we live in an unequal world. But it’s also true that unless women progress, the world cannot really progress”.

The unassuming and extremely industrious director is happy with the clutch of international awards (eight at last count) that her latest film has won but is not resting on her laurels. Instead, Alankrita is making progress on writing the script for her next venture which will deal with the story of two women and will be set in North India. Besides that, she can’t really reveal much at this stage except that, “I will be drawing from my own experience (for the film) even if the facts may not be from my own life.” So, here’s wishing her all the best!
