OUR photographer colleague who was on the spot on Tuesday to watch portly actor and reality show star Rakhi Sawant make a practice bid for the dahi handi suspended above the ground at Ghatkopar, assures us that she was not lifted up to ‘pole’ position by the crane seen in the left of the photograph.
“She climbed up on her own but she was harnessed to the crane by stout ropes, so that if she lost her balance at the top, no harm would come to her”, he said
We have to admit that our hearts went out to all those girls lower on the totem pole, struggling to support that weight. And when did Rakhi herself achieve such agility, we wondered. She must have been practicing for quite some time.
Then we heard a story about her yesterday that gave us a little insight into her determination, if not her taste in behavior.
It seems she lives in Oshiwara and the road to her building was bad for years. Then last year, fed up of the situation, she proceeded to throw tantrums at the BMC ward office and even threatened to sit in dharna on the road.
Rakhi in full cry is not someone even hardened BMC officials would like to deal with. So just before the monsoons set in, the road was hastily and properly built.
You can bet that there are some people who will not hear a word against the actor – all the residents of all the buildings along the road that Rakhi got built!
